Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask [Vanilla] - A Skeptical Review

As some of you have known, Laneige has released different versions of lip sleeping mask! Apparently, Laneige's sleeping mask has been considered as some cult product for giving you really nice lips!

To be frank, my lips are usually dry because I am working in a very cold condition. If I had to be more honest, I can actually peel the skin off my lips every single day because they are so dry and chapped. So easy to get my DNA sample. LOL jokes aside, I actually have been having a habit of peeling the skin on my lips since I was a kid that I've gotten to be so professional to peel them off without bleeding 99% of the time.

That isn't the main problem, you see. The main problem is that I actually couldn't apply lipstick because they cake up so easily and it is very disgusting in the end. Matte lipstick? Liquid lipstick? I've tried them all, they don't look great on my lips because my lip conditions has been so dry for more than a decade. I've tried various lip balms from drug stores, but they don't really heal my lips much.

Though finally, I have got my hands on one of these! My friend and I got them together, she took the apple lime one because I honestly prefer vanilla scent over the other one. I've also tried sniffing (lol) the berry and grapefruit one, they are nice too! However, I really like vanilla's sweet scent so I picked it ^^

They cost RM70 or more from online stores, so yeap that is pretty expensive for someone who would usually use drugstore lip balm (and Vaseline lol). On the day when I got this, I was definitely high or something and thought "if it is such a cult item it probably is pretty good" so I made my friend to get them and later on I regret a lot until the day I started using it.

When you open it, there are three items: The product, the description book (Korean, Chinese and English) and a mini silicone spatula (inside a nice bag).  Ain't anybody got the time to read the descriptions completely, so I skimmed through. The product description says that it helps to repair your lips at night because of some body biological magic, so the sleeping mask is the best to be used at night while you are sleeping. #okay

To be honest, I only tried them on for three nights. On the first night, I applied a moderate amount on my lips. It smells so nice and I tried my best not to smack my lips, and I had to switch sleeping positions because I was honestly afraid of having the product sticking onto my pillows when I was sleeping. On the second morning, I woke up and washed the mask off, and my lips feels kinda nice, and wasn't as dry as how I would usually wake up to. But I was also thinking, maybe it's because I put it on right after peeling my dead skin off? So I went to the office without putting anything on my lips, but it still felt pretty great until 5pm.

"So maybe it is that great," I thought. But I was also curious about how much I should put the product on, so on the second night, I put a thinner layer of the product on my lips (not as thin as how I'd put lip balms on, it's thicker than that, but not as much as I did on the first night) and see how it went.

I woke up on the third day, my lips felt rather ordinary. Around noon, I can feel that I could peel the skin off my lips again but I've decided not to peel them off until the following morning. So at night, I applied a considerable amount of the product onto my lips (a little more than how much I applied on the first day) but because the vanilla product is actually yellowish white, my lips looked like as if I was sick and my mom was like "the hell's wrong with you?" but it was all cool LOL. I think the berry one would be nice to put on since it'd be giving a reddish hint when you apply it on (since the product is red-pinkish)!

So on day 4, which is today, I washed off my lips as usual and the seemingly dry skin on my lips just... fell out?!  Like, my hand felt kinda sticky and there's my skin on my hand and I was just Σ(・口・) for a full minute until the reality hit me because I was close to being late for work. It feels smoother, and my lips doesn't seem so wrinkly (?) compared to day 1 too.

I think it might be too early for me to give it a really proper rating, but I'd give it a 4.9/5 for the impressions it gave me for these few days! One of them is because I really liked the scent, and how they had a mini spatula that you wouldn't need to stick your finger into the product, and hey, it makes my lips smoother! I don't think it's a complete replacement of exfoliating, but this product certainly helps a lot. Also, the price is one of the reasons why it didn't receive a full 5/5 (pls pity my purse it has never been so empty in my life).

I think I'll continue using the entire product and see if I would need another one! ^^

I'll update next time! Until then! ;)

  1. Such a quirky and fun reveiw to read, thank you.

I have the berry mask but it's almost done and since I love it so much I of course had to restock. So when I was restocking, I saw that there were different flavours and my first reaction was "gotta get them all!". In the end though, I settled for the vanilla one like you did and now I'm kind of regretting it after hearing you say that there is a slight whitish tint to it. I use it sometimes as a normal lip balm (TBH I've been so spoilt by this I now hate the feeling of normal lip balms *le sigh*) but I guess I can't do it now with the vanilla one... Oh well, that'll teach me to get too excited about lip balm flavours. I'm glad you enjoy it though, it is honestly such a great lazy girl product.
Also a side note about the price. Many places sell mini's for a lot cheaper (or just as free samples every once in a while) get those, they're 3g which is about the mass of a standard tube of lip balm anyways and since this stuff is so potent even the little ones last a really long time. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know since that price tag is the only thing holding you back from giving it a full 5/5 =))

    1. Hello! Thank you for taking your time to write me a lengthy comment! Very much appreciated ❤

I'm usually quite skeptical about online stores because I'm not good at differentiating originals and pirated ones. So much of pirated beauty products around! :(

If I manage to find something on sale I'd definitely still use it often!
