I Tried 4 Different Korean Color Correcting Makeup Base/Primer!

Hello everyone! I am finally back for an update!

Months ago, I have read about color correcting makeup bases and I got really interested to know which one would be a better one.

But being the cheapo as I am, I only tried out one from The Face Shop, Nature Republic and Etude House and Innisfree using my birthday discount (LOL).

Disclaimers:
1) I only chose Lavender color because my skin is yellowish and lavender is a good color to cancel out the yellow and makes your skin to look brighter. For people who have more redness in skin, green would be more recommended! I only have redness from little pimple marks, so I use a color correcting concealer instead of a base for the case.

2) For my review, I'll compare each of the products based on the following criteria: Brightness, Moisturizing power, Coverage, Application, Lightness, Price and Longlasting-ness (is this even a word?).


So, here we go!

#1 AIR COTTON MAKE UP BASE from THE FACE SHOP

  • Price: 5/5 
    • I bought it at only RM15 from Shopee along with other products and the product is shipped directly from Korea! (I bought other items for free shipping, though lol) 
    • With this price point, I think it's really cheap!
  • Brightness: 3/5
    • It certainly brightens up my skintone pretty well for a product that I don't pay as much compared to other products listed in this post.
    • Though, comparing to other products, it seems like my makeup also got dull after only 4~5 hours of desktop work.
  • Moisturizing power: 2.5/5
    • This product feels nice to apply on, but later of the day rather than feeling my makeup is staying, my face started to feel a little oily.
  • Application: 4/5
    • At the starting point of application it is easy to apply, not too watery to make a mess either! I simply applied with a puff and I didn't need extra effort to push everything around. Overall it feels really nice to apply tbh.
  • Coverage: 2/5
    • Coverage power is so-so, but oh well you can always use a concealer later.  
  • Lightness: 3.5/5
    • The product doesn't feel heavy on the skin, but Etude House does better from my experience. 
  • Longlasting-ness: 3/5
    • Didn't last for very long. 
  • Overall: 3.29/5 
    • Would use it if I am going out for a short errand so I don't look so yellow.
    • Would still use it because it isn't costly, just not for occasions that I have to go out for a long time (for work, for example) 


#2 MINERAL MAKE UP BASE SPF30 PA++ from INNISFREE





  • Price: 4/5 
    • I bought it at RM35 from Shopee. The seller guarantees that all of her products are originally from Korea, so I actually compared it with the retail store (sorry lol) to know that it's the real deal.
  • Brightness: 3.5/5
    • It certainly brightens up my skintone, but it didn't do as well as I wished it to be. 
    • Though, comparing to other products, it's better than The Face Shop but not as good as Etude House. 
  • Moisturizing power: 3.5/5
    • Innisfree is doing a better job for their skincare imo and this doesn't feel like it dries out my skin badly. My face is only seemingly a little oily after about 7 hours in the office.
  • Application: 4/5
    • This product is also pretty easy to use, just slightly less watery than the one from The Face Shop, I would say. Still easy to apply.
  • Coverage: 3/5
    • Coverage power is medium, some of my pores aren't as clear but pimples still need a good concealer to cover them.  
  • Lightness: 3.5/5
    • The product doesn't feel heavy on the skin, quite similar to the one from The Face Shop.
  • Longlasting-ness: 3.5/5
    • It almost helped me to get through 75% of my working day, so yay! Would use it for a half-day date or something. LOL.  
  • Overall: 3.57/5 
    • Would use it if I am going out for a short errand or a half-day work.
    • Still affordable, has SPF, so it's still ok to get this! 


#3 PROVENCE BLOSSOM MAKEUP BASE from NATURE REPUBLIC





  • Price: 3/5 
    • A friend from the US brought me this when she was in Korea (thank you sweetie) and I didn't know the price for this particular item in Malaysia. However, as soon as I checked the price from Nature Republic Korean site, it's about RM70 (18900 Korean Won). 
    • With that price I would probably get myself a primer from Benefit Cosmetics  Sephora (It's only RM61!) if this isn't as good lol I should remind myself to visit Sephora next time.
  • Brightness: 4/5
    • It brightens up my skin pretty well! It brightens up more than than innisfree, to be exact. 
    • Didn't give it a 5 because the brightness didn't last very long.
  • Moisturizing power: 4/5
    • Skin doesn't cry for moisture after washing it off compared to other items!
    • After checking the ingredients there were ginseng extract and royal jelly, explains the price point now. 
  • Application: 4/5
    • Super easy to spread out, doesn't make a mess but it's easy to keep things even. 
  • Coverage: 2.9/5
    • Coverage power is not apparent, but then again because your skin brightens up it isn't so bad. 
  • Lightness: 4.5/5
    • Super light, doesn't feel heavy on the skin nor it feels greasy.
  • Longlasting-ness: 3.1/5
    • I tested this out when I was working for a 10 to 10 shift. My face is starting to look dull from 2PM and I'm really sad about this.
  • Overall: 3.64/5 
    • I liked that there's SPF in this product too though!
    • But honestly because this product probably didn't like me very much I don't think I'll be getting it again after I finish this bottle.


#4 FIX AND FIX TONE UP PRIMER SPF33 PA++ from ETUDE HOUSE





  • Price: 3.2/5 
    • 30% discount from Etude House for birthday month made me to buy this. (Normal retail price: RM56). 
    • It's a little expensive but so far I have loved the texture!
  • Brightness: 4.3/5
    • I love love LOVE how it brightens up my skin with only a little application!
    • Didn't give it a 5 because it didn't last for my full shift.
  • Moisturizing power: 4/5
    • Skin doesn't feel bad after washing off on a day when I'm lazy to do my skincare lol so I really liked it! 
  • Application: 4/5
    • Super easy to spread out, just a little bit of the product is enough to go places!
  • Coverage: 3.5/5
    • I'd say that the coverage isn't the best yet but hey, you can complement with a normal concealer. My pimple scars are like 80% covered so I don't have to do much of touch up. 
  • Lightness: 4.5/5
    • Super light, doesn't feel heavy on the skin, definitely not greasy and I almost forgot that I have put something on my face.
    • On a plus side I used this without powdering my face or putting foundation but my colleagues said I look prettier lol
  • Longlasting-ness: 4.5/5
    • I tested this out when I was working for a 10 to 10 shift in an event that I had to walk around while offering consultations. I'm only seeing a little bit of shine at around 5PM! 
  • Overall: 4/5 
    • Although it's a primer, I used it as a makeup base (to be honest I just feel like treating them the same). Whether with or without additional foundation on me is great! 


Final Thoughts

  • In order to save my wallet I would get Air Cotton from The Face Shop (lol) but if I know I'm going to use something for my work environment (full blast Air Conditioner office environment that requires you to keep sitting and talking to humans), Etude House is my choice. 
  • Though there are actually a whole lot more brands to try but I am not sure when I will be able to try them out yet (Laneige, the other cushion base from Nature Republic, and other brands in Sephora etc. welp) because I honestly need to finish what I buy first lol 
  • All of the scores are actually pretty close to each other after I've divided them by adding them up and getting an average score. Perhaps in the future I should also consider comparing prices based on their official retail price? Let me know what you think!

Innisfree it's real squeeze mask

It has been a really busy month in October, and I have been seriously missing the beauty regime (RIP skin). I just got back home from my grandma's funeral last night, and it was both physically and mentally exhausting.

Anyways, I've tried getting some sheet masks from innisfree, and this particular one is what I really wanted to talk about when I used it this morning! I also got some other masks, but I will talk about them next time.

In this post, it's their manuka honey sheet mask from their 'it's real squeeze mask' series that I wanted to talk about, because of very special reasons.

The reason that I have gotten this mask was because I have been wondering how honey is used in skincare, because all I've been doing with honey is to eat them on its own, or to make drinks for bad throat (why did I not Google about it and make impulse purchases oh God). When I saw this on the shelves, I grabbed it right away!

And after all the busy October days, I decided to give this a try.

But the weird thing comes in - IT SMELLS LIKE BEER.

You did not hear it wrong.

It smells like beer.

I am not even kidding, when I opened the packaging, it didn't smell like anything strong, but as soon as I opened up the mask and bring it closer to my face, I've been wondering 'why does this smell like something that I used to drink' and only then, I realized it smelled like beer.

To be frank, I was hoping for a sweet smell of honey, or something with a nice fragrance, or smelling like the honey in my fridge. All I got was the smell of beer as I sniffed my way out of the packaging. I also googled around and see if it is normal to smell that way, and apparently the product does smell like alcohol to other bloggers as well, so... ^^:

Then again, I drink, so I didn't really mind the smell too much that I would refuse to try the product at all, so it's still good for me to give it a go. Had to be frank that I really can't hide the mini-disappointment of the lack of the sweet smell, though.

The recommended time to apply the mask was 10~20 minutes. I applied it for 15 minutes and the mask started to feel like it is drying up, so I took it off and pat my face and lightly massaged it in circles. The texture feels a little soft and smooth.

It's moisturizing, I'd admit that it somehow works. I also wanted to mention that I actually also searched around the internet to roughly understand that honey is actually a famous ingredient for hydration (also its usage for anti-inflammation purposes yaaaaaas did I mention that my cheeks started to have red, swollen patches since October idek why). My face also felt softer and isn't as red as I could remember anymore.

Compared to the sheet masks from Comelyco that I've tried, this one from innisfree does not give out as much as the sticky aftereffects. I personally find the sticky part irritating that I would want to wash it off as soon as possible, but they said that you are supposed to let the essence sink into the skin (did you mean absorb lmao).

Would I get this product again? Most likely, no. I actually have some other products that are more moisturizing (hey Hada Labo wink wonk ;) lololol) than a sheet mask, and I will stick to them until I can find a new mask.

For the rating, I'd rate it a 3.6/5 for this sheet mask. First, it isn't very cheap and the smell is kind of disappointing by a little. Its moisturizing and anti-inflammation abilities are there, but not significant. Thankfully, my skin did not feel any tingling or stinging sensation, which has been a blessing because I do know that there are people feeling that the product would sting on their skin. Somehow, my dad thought I snuck out for beer while he didn't notice too, so that's kind of a minus point too.

I got my customized palette from Innisfree!


Hey everyone! It has been another week and it's time for me to write another post!

As some of you might have known, innisfree, the famous Korean cosmetics and skincare company has released the item called 'My Palette'!

What it does is that you can choose a case of three sizes, small, medium and large. Each case has a magnetic base that you can customize your entire palette with whatever you need.

And it also comes with a huge selection of eyeshadow (matte, shimmer and glitter), blusher (cream and powder), highlighter (cream and powder) and contour, and also concealers.

I was looking for some orange-red color of eyeshadow because I've been missing the maiko look that I had in Japan. I thought of getting the palettes from Etude House because they are honestly so so SO pretty, but there are also many colors on the palette that I don't use because I personally have quite an amount of earth-color eyeshadow shades and I don't want any of those anymore, which was why I am really loving innisfree's idea of a customized palette where you can pick your favorite shades.

Also, lucky me! When I was in one of the innisfree outlets, there was a promotion where I could get a rectangle product (highlighter/contour/blusher) with the purchase of a small case (that could put four squares/ two squares + 1 rectangle/ 2 rectangles) plus two squares! I have also been missing the cream blusher that I got from canmake (I really love canmake but there isn't a branch in Malaysia, and the items that I want from Japan aren't retailed in KL) so I was like "yes this is my chance!" and I bought them right away!

The case comes in four pattern, an ordinary pattern, and three limited edition designs. I got one of the limited edition designs (since they happen to have the same price) and I think the designs are adorable, and the original is just... plain (but not in a bad way).


And above is what I got (I used the product before taking a photo LOL) from innisfree! I got their matte eyeshadow #34, glitter eyeshadow #14 and cream blusher #2 because those are the colors I wanted to try on. I have no interest in getting highlighters or concealers because the colors aren't really suiting my skin (either too light or too dark ;;) as well.

Although #34 looks like dark red here, but when I apply it, it gives a orange-red tint that I like. As for the blusher, the color is slightly more orangey compared to my Canmake cream blusher #14. As for the glitter #14, you might think it's pinkish, but the glitters are gold in color. Their shimmers are nice too, but I wanted to use glitters for the middle of my eyelid (and also my lip!) so I checked out with the four items at RM78.

I tried wearing them and went for a shower (without a primer). The blusher went off as soon as I finished washing my hair, while the eyeshadows were actually still intact (some fell off, but the colors are still visible). I also tried the cream blusher on my lips while topping some #34 in the middle for a gradient color (don't judge me I just wanna play with the colors in the shower) and then putting some glittery #14. I tried kissing on the mirrors and the tissue papers, and the products didn't go off too much. Though I'd say that they aren't waterproof.

To rate the products, I'd rate the concept of customizing a 4.5/5 because there are still some shades that I hope to find but I couldn't find, but the ability to customize freely makes me very glad. As for the products themselves, I'll rate 3.5/5 for the blusher because it goes off so easily, and 4/5 for the eyeshadows because I could see that they wouldn't last for long hours as well. Though I think they can be improved with primers.

Review on Olive real moisture hand cream by Innisfree



Sorry for the lack of update! I was horribly sick last week I can't do much besides working and collapsing due to fatigue T_T

Anyways, today, I wanted to talk about innisfree's olive real moisture hand cream! As some of you have known about my horrible skin condition from my previous post (read it here if you wanna know) but to summarize it my hand has a patch of dry skin that has been irritating and itchy whenever I happened to contact with moisture, which was the reason why I've been trying to use different types of hand creams!

Until a couple of days ago, I went to innisfree with my friends to try out some nail polish but I happened to stumble upon this product and I went on trying!




At first I was only trying this out for fun, but somehow it actually lasts pretty long until I feel like I have to reapply the moisturizer again. (It took more than an hour for my dry patch of skin, rather than comparing to other creams that I had, I had to reapply every half an hour or so. It costs RM26.00 and to be honest, although it isn't exactly cheaper than the horse oil products that I've tried, but hey, I don't have to fly to Japan or Korea to get these, do I?

Also, compared to the previous hand creams that I've tried, this one from Innisfree is 50ml while the others are 45g (which is equivalent to 45ml) or so. The packaging also makes me think that it is easier to get the product out compared to the previous ones that I've bought, because it's a little like the toothpaste or acrylic paint that we can squeeze probably everything out with a good press!

To some people, RM26 (About USD 6.50) from the retail store might sound like a lot, but for how this works for me and how I wouldn't be getting frustrated about how I couldn't be able to get every bit of the product out, I am pretty glad to get this! I guess I wouldn't really need to look for new ones in the future, but I'd still be looking around until all of my creams are used up! Haha :D

If I had to give this product a rating, I suppose I would give this a 4.7/5.

It isn't exactly on the cheaper end, but considering it is using olives (it's not cheap in where I live) and the considerate packaging, also the fact that I don't have to waste time to reapply this product every now and then I also feel more productive, I don't see why not giving this product a try.

Of course, if you are able to visit physical stores to try it out, I highly recommend it! If you think you'd like to snag it at cheaper prices, then try one at a physical store and buy one online? Though, you should always be careful of the authenticity of the products!
